Although there are a ton of annuals from which to choose that will work in full sun, if you’re looking for easy to care for annuals, then here are five you may want to take a look at.
1. Petunias.
Petunias grow great in full sun and are very easy to care for. Feed them well and they’ll keep in full bloom throughout the summer. Petunias are also the type of annual that will spread and fill up spots in your garden that you want to hide. They come in many colors and range from upright to trailing. Try Miracle-Gro Bloom Booster and your petunias will thank you for it in their display of flowers. Petunias can withstand the heat of summer but just make sure to water them when the soil is dry.
2. Geraniums.
Geraniums are a good stand-by and do well in full sun. They are easy to care for and are forgiving if they get a little dry. The leaves have a tendency to go yellow as they’re going by but are easy to snap off at the bottom of the leaf stem. Just pull it in the opposite direction of where the leaf is growing and it comes off easily. You can feed geraniums regular Miracle-Gro or the Miracle-Gro Bloom Booster. Geraniums also come in upright and trailing varieties.
3. Scaevola.
Scaevola is a hardy full sun annual that can withstand going a little dry if you’re not able to water frequently during the hottest of the hot summer days. The flowers are blue/purple and scaevola makes a great complement to other plantings. Scaevola is also great to use as ground cover since it spreads out.
4. Portulaca.
Portulaca come in different colors and have bright flowers. They brighten up sandy, full sun areas and since they’re a little succulent, they don’t need to be watered frequently. They grow well in areas where your other annuals may not thrive such as sandy soil and they spread nicely to fill in those areas.
